Groveland Twp.-Although 1st Lt. Garold Parsons may be new to his position as Michian State Police post commander in Groveland Township, he is no rookie when it comes to law enforcement.
‘I’ve been in law enforcement 29 years,? said Parsons.
Parsons, 51, spent his first eight years working for the Iosco County Sheriffs Department. He also worked as a trooper in Flint, a Detective at the Ypsilanti and Bridgeport post, internal affairs in Lansing and as a section commander of Flint area narcotics.
A native of Tawas City, Parsons currently lives in Flint. He is married and the father of two daughters. ‘We went to Flint and liked it and stayed there,? Parsons said.
Since beginning work on Jan. 16, Parsons is enjoying his new job. ‘I love it. I wish I’d have done it earlier,? he said.
‘This job is in constant contact with the troopers and that’s what I like about it,? said Parsons. ‘It’s just a good feeling to be able to coach and mentor them.?
Parsons said he also gets a bit of an education himself in the process.
‘There’s a lot they can teach me ’cause I haven’t worked the road in 10 years,? he said.
