Goodrich-Residents will soon have a new place to meet.
The village council is considering options to finish the lower floor of the Gordon H. Bachmann Department of Public Works building as the new council area. Completion of the lower level would allow village boards and commissions to utilize about 1,500 square feet of space for meetings.
Meetings are currently convened on the second floor of the Goodrich-Atlas Lyceum 10237 Hegel Road.
‘When we designed this building, one of the intentions was to have our meetings here,? said Village Administrator Jakki Sidge. However, funds were unavailable to complete the project in 2004, when the upper level was completed.?
Construction on the $1 million DPW and Goodrich administrative offices on three acres began in spring 2004. The structure is 4,400 square feet and is currently used to house equipment in addition to the offices.
Currently the lower level of the meeting room is unfinished. Sidge said the village is exploring options to have a drop ceiling and additional walls installed as well as insulation work, drywall, carpeting completed.
‘That had always been the intention when we put the lower level on this building. We’ve been talking about the use of this building since its conception,? said Sidge.
