The Holiday Greens Market moves to a new location, doubles its merchandise selection and welcomes credit cards for the first time at the Clarkston Farm and Garden Club’s 24th annual greens market, its major fund-raiser of the year.
This year’s Greens Market, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, will be at Calvary Lutheran Church, 6805 Bluegrass Drive, off M-15 behind the Oxford Bank.
Anita Andes, chair of the annual sale, said the club had been looking for a larger place to showcase the more than 200 fresh greens arrangements, wreaths, roping, loose greens, swags, small gift items, birch reindeer, luminaries, mini-trees and plants, birch candle and plant holders, holiday place and picture holders, and stocking stuffers for pets.
A ‘Think Tank? of club designers was put to work this year to bring new ideas and fresh insights in products offered. Members have been designing and assembling items for weeks, Andes said.
‘Look for metal and natural containers embellished in more than the regular Christmas colors,? she said. ‘We’ve researched and groomed to the Nth degree.?
Custom arrangement in your own container can be ordered by calling 248-459-9026.
The Garden Club, a 501c3, uses profits from the annual sale to fund literary programs for Clarkston area residents, including second graders introduced to literary treasures; fourth graders flock to touch relics, pet snakeskins and even hug Michigan mammal pelts under the watchful eye of a trained naturalist; Project Learning Tree helps train nearly 30 pre-school teachers and early childhood educators how to better teach science and horticulture; mini-grants for elementary and secondary teachers district-wide to help fund projects educating youngsters about horticulture, conservation, earth sciences, and the environment; and 30 graduating seniors are considered for college scholarships. Add to that the flowerbeds at the Clarkston Independence District Library and the 26 natural stone planters downtown that are re-planted seasonally and watered, sometimes daily, through the warmer months.
The club will accept Discover, Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Mail tax deductible contributions to the Clarkston Farm and Garden Club, P.O. Box 1011, Clarkston, Michigan 48347.
