When Randy Groya began his search for a position as a school administrator, he wanted to find a district that matched the standards he had set forth for himself as an educator.
Now, just two weeks into his new job as assistant principal at Waldon Middle School, Groya is certain he’s found the right place.
Groya, 33, was introduced to Lake Orion School Board members at the Sept. 13 board meeting, just hours after spending his first day on the job.
Having been an elementary teacher for five years in Bay City, and more recently for four years with the Troy school district, Groya decided he wanted to make the transition to school administration.
‘It’s a challenge starting over in a new community and new school district,? said Groya. ‘But I’d been looking for a bigger challenge. I’m very excited about this new opportunity.?
Groya said he’s been impressed with the enthusiasm for the school district shown by staff, students, parents and the community in general.
‘When I was interviewing, I drove around town and saw all kinds of people wearing Lake Orion hats and sweatshirts,? he said. ‘I sensed there is a great deal of pride for the schools. It was inspiring to see that much support.
‘I also believe there are high educational standards here, and that impressed me,? he added. ‘This feels like a real good fit for me.?
Groya brings leadership skills and a passion for continued learning to the Lake Orion school district.
He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Central Michigan University, and is currently completing his Education Specialist Degree at Oakland University.
Groya resides in Royal Oak with his wife, Leah.
