Need a cup of Joe? A Bean To Go

Goodrich – It’s all in the beans.
That’s the mantra of master roaster Kirk Walker, owner of A Bean To Go, gourmet coffee shop. The business has been drawing area traffic to their new location at 8221 South State Road.
‘The artwork in doing coffee is the roasting. That is what makes the final product so good,? said Walker.
Kirk’s wife Amy said they started their business in a fireproof room in the basement at their home about four years ago. Ordered to stop roasting by the village council because neighbors complained about the odor, Amy said they moved to Ortonville for awhile.
‘We overcame that obstacle. That wasn’t something that was going to hold us down. We have lived in Goodrich for 14 years now. It’s good to be back,? she said.
Amy and Kirk said they gave their business the name ‘Shadrach Meshach & ABeanToGo? gourmet coffee from the three named in the Bible.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were three Hebrew exiles thrown into a huge fiery furnace because of their faith. In the Biblical account found in the book of Daniel, the three walked out of the furnace, smoke-free, thanks to the protection of God.
The Walkers relate well to the story. They say, ‘God has taken care of them.?
Now shipping their coffee to restaurants and grocery chains all across the United States, Amy said they ship out hundreds of pounds of coffee each week.
The newly designed cafe, Amy said, had to incorporate a cafe and a wholesale shipping business in one location. ‘We wanted to make a cafe, yet we have lots of wholesale product. So we had to differentiate between all of the coffee in the back and the retail in the front,? said Amy.
With 39 different coffees including 19 flavored, they sell one and five pound packages. Kirk said his customers are always trying something new. The most popular flavors of coffee, Amy said, are blueberry cobbler, macadamia nut and ‘Jamaican Me Crazy.? During the holidays they we call their Jamaican flavor, ‘Jingle Bell Java.?
