Brandon’s varsity wrestling team experienced a mixed bag of results at the Birch Run Team Invitational Saturday, Dec. 3.
The Blackhawks went 2-3 at the invite, defeating Beaverton 42-36 and Oscoda 42-24. Brandon lost to Swan Valley 42-37; Midland Dow 47-27; and Frankenmuth 48-29.
Travis Murphy was Brandon’s top wrestler at the meet, going 5-0 in the 103-lb. weight class, while James Millar (125) went 3-0. Sam McGeachy (119) and Jacob Beebe (112) each went 4-1, while Zeke Grounds (275) went 3-2.
In their opening meet of the season, the Brandon varsity wrestling team was defeated by host Waterford Kettering 51-24 and by Birmingham Groves 46-33 in a Nov. 30 dual meet.
The Blackhawks recorded five wins in their matchup against Kettering. McGeachy (119) won an 11-8 decision; Jack Boswell (130) win by pinfall in 4:46; Aaron Hyde (189) won by pinfall in 2:19; Grounds (275) won by pinfall in 3:00; and Beebe (103) earned an 8-5 decision.
Boswell and McGeachy were also successful against Groves, with each earning wins to go 2-0 on the evening. Boswell (125) earned a 7-3 decision, while McGeachy (119) won by pinfall in 1:35. Andrew Hyde (152) took a pinfall win in 53 seconds, while Ryan Claycomb (160) won by pinfall in 56 seconds.
In addition, two other Blackhawks, Murphy (103) and Beebe (112) won by void against Groves.
