The Michigan State Police announced last week that 55 troopers will be recalled statewide who were laid off last summer.
However, the Groveland Township Post, the current base for eight troopers, which lost three during the reduction, will unlikely see their ranks increase.
‘As of today, the Groveland Post is not on the list to see the troopers laid off last summer return,? said Shanon Banor, Michigan State Police public affairs officer.
‘The reinstatement is based on seniority, and those cut from Groveland were graduated members of the 2008-121 Trooper Recruit School.?
The cuts stem from a $349 million cut from the current state budget earlier this year. Included on the chopping block was $1.7 million from the Michigan State Police budget. The move prompted the layoffs of 100 troopers statewide.
‘The Flint Michigan State Police Post, who lost five troops in the summer layoff, looks a lot better to get troopers back,? she said.
Banor said that since 2001, statewide more than 350 troopers have been cut from the ranks.
Troopers from the Groveland Township Post respond to calls in Rose and Holly townships, in addition to covering I-75.
