Mother nature caused some speed bumps for the Oakland County 4-H Fair, but could not stop visitors from having a good time.
Fair General Manager L.C. Scramlin said rain and the heat may have kept the crowds down, but everything still ran smoothly.
‘The fair itself went good,? Scramlin said. ‘The showings went well. We had a lot of attendance. The attendance was not down much. We just noticed in carnival area people did not ride the rides because it was so hot. The things we can control went well. Mother nature we can’t control. Thursday night we had great crowd for the demolition derby. It rained at 9 p.m so those people didn’t get to go out and ride the rides. We had people actually here, but didn’t have the weather so they could stay.?
This year’s fair also featured the opening of the Ellis Barn, which Scramlin said went well.
‘We had a ton of visitors go through the Ellis Barn,? Scramlin said. ‘People were really impressed with how big the barn was and the great job we did with it.?
Tim Kerr, 11, said he had a good time at the fair and he comes every year.
‘The freakout ride was my favorite,? Kerr said. ‘I also liked the big triangle and the super slide. The rides are the best part.?
Jennifer Laten, 16, agreed the rides were her favorite part.
‘The freakout and the ship are a lot of fun,? Laten said. ‘I also like coming to the fair and spending time with family.?
Mike Speagle said he has come to the fair for years and is now bringing his kids.
‘I like everything at the fair,? Speagle said. ‘The food, the animals and the rides. I come every year and my kids really like it.?
Scramlin said plans have begun for next year’s fair.
