Morgan wins twin bill as GHS softball stays unbeaten

Goodrich’s softball team is off to a perfect start under new coach Rick Bescoe.
Jessica Morgan won both ends of a doubleheader April 5 as the Martians defeated Bendle 12-1 in the opener and 14-0 in the nightcap. The Martians are now 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in Genesee Area Conference Red Division play.
Morgan pitched a combined eight innings, giving up four hits, striking out eight and allowing a walk. She also had three hits in the first game.
Four other Martians notched two hits apiece in the opener: Kelsey Krych, Julie Owen, Alisha Bergeron, and Alyssa Bertrand. Krych also tallied three hits in the nightcap.
The Martians started their season on the right foot, defeating host Oxford in a doubleheader April 1. Goodrich won the opener 3-2 and the nightcap 5-0.
In the opener, Morgan went the distance, allowing only three hits while striking out eight. Jenni Brothers went 3-for-3 with one run scored, while Bertrand went 2-for-3 and Ashley Short 2-for-2.
Morgan’s sister, Tori, took charge for the Martians in the nightcap, which was called due to darkness. Morgan pitched five innings of shutout ball, striking out three and walking one while allowing three hits.
Seven different players notched one hit each for Goodrich: Brothers, Bertrand, Short, Owen, Jessica Morgan, Tara Garman and Ellen Nothhelfer.
The Martians return to action April 19 when they host New Lothrop.
