Goodrich- For the high school students who comprise the 2009 FIRST Robotics team, Apollo 11 and the first walk on the moon is just a mere chapter in history class.
Marking the achievement of the first lunar landing and walk on the moon in 1969 the 2009 FIRST Robotics Competition subject this year will be ‘Lunacy.?
‘The robots are completed and ready for competition,? said Pat Major, robotics coach for the past nine years, for two teams and 24 students. ‘We have a pretty good shot at winning it all this year. Great students and engineers to team up and find a way to get the job done.?
In the ‘Lunacy? game, robots are designed to pick up 9-inch game balls and score them in trailers hitched to their opponents? robots for points during a 2 minute and 15 second match. Additional points are awarded for scoring a special game ball, the Super Cell, in the opponents? trailers during the last 20 seconds of the match.
The teams will then travel to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, April 16-18 for the World Championships.
