The computer business MisterTech is just getting going in Ortonville, but owner Jason Mateyak hopes it will stick around for some time.
‘We’re just starting right now and still getting going, but we’ve consistently had customers,? Mateyak said of MisterTech, located at 1221 M-15 in Ortonville.
Mateyak worked at Bank One for about six years, repairing their work stations, before deciding to put his 20 years of experience building computers to work and starting his own business about two years ago.
‘I was running it out of my home,? he said. ‘Friends and relatives were dropping their computers over, and it started getting too busy. My financial backer said, ‘You have so many people coming over, let’s start a store in Ortonville and let’s see what happens.??
Mateyak said he specializes in ‘building PCs that don’t break and last, and are easy to upgrade.? He also said he sells the $699 personal computer that Dell sells, but added the one he sells is better than Dell’s ‘spec-wise and hardware-wise.? He said it costs people twice as much money to upgrade their computers from Dell as opposed to customizing them through his business.
‘I specialize in quality, not just mass-producing,? he said.
He also said MisterTech will help local businesses with business solutions and networking concerns, as well as hardware maintenance.
As of now, the business employs two people, Mateyak and Dawn Graham, a receptionist who has experience repairing computers. ‘She knows how to put PCs together ? she knows what she’s doing,? Mateyak said.
He also said he is looking to hire another employee to help with the work load once he gets the business further established. He said most customers have trouble understanding the language associated with technology. He admitted since he has so much experience working with computers, he has a tendency to speak in computer-related terms, so he hopes that another employee might be able to explain to customers their computer’s problems in layman’s terms.
‘Right now, I’m working from nine in the morning to 11 at night, six or seven days a week,? he said. ‘I want to get a feel for what the customers are doing.?
Mateyak is also in the beginning stages of putting together his supply of computer parts to sell to customers. ‘I’m still trying to find vendors to carry various equipment,? he said.
