Forced to wait until Dec. 13 to start their season, the Clarkston basketball team wrested a 54-49 win from Flint Carman Ainsworth.
Seniors Joe Moran and John Kast led the way for the Wolves, each scoring a game-high 12 points against Carman Ainsworth. Junior Bren Berquist contributed 10 in the victory.
The Wolves were to open the 2005-06 campaign at Flint Northern, but the contest was rescheduled for Dec. 22 after a wintry mix cancelled school on Dec. 9.
Clarkston’s matchup with Rochester Adams on Dec. 20 finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News.
With only three games on the schedule before the winter break, Clarkston Coach Dan Fife is using the early part of the season for extended evaluation.
‘I just want my players to determine who they are and what their role is going to be,? Fife said.
However, once the team returns to game action at Rochester High School on Jan. 3, Fife wants the questions answered.
‘After Christmas, they have to have it done if they want to make a push for playing time,? Fife said.
After the holidays, Clarkston plays a spate of road games, beginning with Rochester, then at Pontiac Northern on Jan. 6, followed by an away date on Jan. 10 against Groves and concluding at Pontiac Central on Jan. 17. The Wolves home crowd gets a chance to cheer on their team again on Jan. 20 when Southfield Lathrup comes to C-town.
