The Clarkston High School Military History Club is spreading Christmas cheer beyond the U.S. Borders. The club is supporting the 65th combat engineering battalion in Iraq for the holiday season.
The MHC is an academic club where students pick historical topics, do research and then give a presentation to their class. This is a student driven group and currently has about 15 participants.
‘The kids love the history and love getting involved,? said Alex Sennabaum, Military History Club sponsor.
Last year, the club sponsored a unit in Afganistan. The club provided notebooks, pencils, candy, magazines and lip balm. This year, a student had a friend involved in the 65th unit in Iraq. The student got the unit’s address, and plans to send the goods at the end of this week.
Since the troops will not be home for Christmas, the students would like a few items to make their deployment a little easier.
Some suggested donations include: granola bars, eye drops, Beef Jerky, hard candy, dried fruit, fruit snacks, nuts, baby wipes and cash donations for postage.
‘These students are a great bunch of kids,? said Sennabaum. ‘They are very patriotic and want to help the soldiers any way they can.?
