On Dec. 11, 2008, Megan Bellairs, daughter of Pam Bellairs, celebrated her graduation from The Eastern Michigan Young Marines Recruit Class 812. Megan is 8 years old and is in 3rd grade at Clear Lake Elementary.
Megan successfully completed 13 weeks of recruit ‘boot camp,? passed her written test on military terminology, Marine history, knowledge of the honor and obligation of being a Young Marine, and earned her physical fitness ribbon award.
The Young Marines are sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps as part of its drug use reduction program.
The program stresses honor, courage, and commitment and being responsible and respectful to others and themselves and also the value of community service.
On graduation night, Megan had her picture (right) taken with Mr. Robert Heft, who designed our current 50 state U.S. flag for a school project when he was 17 years old.
