Martian icers tally first win of new season

The Goodrich Martians hockey team were defeated by Linden on Dec. 5 by a score of 5-2. Mitchell Syrowik tallied for Goodrich and assisted Chris Easton with the second goal. Joe Zito also had two assists, and Kyle Arwood had one. Martian netminder Michael Underwood turned away 21 shots.
On Dec. 8 the Martians won their first game of the season as Zito completed a hat trick with four seconds remaining in the game. The final score was 4-1, lifting their record to 1-3-1.
Throughout the entire first period neither Goodrich or Flushing scored. In the second, Goodrich started its lead against Flushing 2-1. Flushing was the first to score, then Joe Zito took the advantage scoring twice, assisted by Kyle Hughes and Mitchell Syrowik for the first goal, and Jake Brejank for the second.
Goodrich held Flushing scoreless in the third period. The Martians? Trevor Troupe scored with 1:21 remaining assisted by Syrowik and J Brejnak. Zito completed his hat trick, being assisted by Aaron Fraker with four seconds remaining. Michael Underwood had 25 saves for the Martians.
The team will play Hemlock High School at 5:45 p.m., Dec. 22 at home.
