Goodrich’s hockey team is hoping to turn things around before the start of the state playoffs.
The host Martians fell victim to four Saginaw Nouvel goals in the second period as the Panthers defeated the Martians 8-5, dropping Goodrich’s record to 13-7-2.
The Martians actually scored first against Nouvel, as Lance Keene connected on an assist from Ryan Mortimer. However, Nouvel followed up with two goals in the first to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the period.
Nouvel added another goal early in the second to take a 3-1 lead before Max Hawkins cut the Martians? deficit to 3-2 with 12:45 left in the second. However, the Panthers scored three more goals in the second to take a commanding 6-2 lead at the end of the second.
Mortimer scored two goals and Nick Meyers one goal in the third period for the Martians, but the Panthers countered with two goals in the third to put away the win.
The visiting Martians couldn’t hold on to a 3-2 lead after two periods against Marysville Feb. 21.
Two goals in the third period lifted the Vikings to a 4-3 defeat of the Martians. Marysville’s Jordan Kohler scored the tying goal at 2:54 of the third, and Jake Butchbach scored the game-winner for the Vikings at 7:59 of the period.
Keene put the Martians on the board first at 2:53 of the first, as Dan Daugherty and Phil Holloway assisted. However, the Vikings? Jake Hartig scored twice in the last five minutes of the period to give Marysville a 2-1 lead at the end of the first.
Goodrich answered at 10:18 of the second period, as Hawkins scored on an assist from Mortimer to tie the game at two. Mortimer then put the Martians up 3-2 at 13:39 of the period, with Daugherty and Meyers drawing the assists.
