After a tough league loss to Bendle earlier this month, the Goodrich varsity boys basketball team has reasserted itself in the Genesee Area Conference Red Division race.
The Martians earned their second straight win with a 67-38 win against host North Branch Jan. 25, improving to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the GAC Red.
Goodrich shared the wealth against the Broncos, with ten Martians making their way on the scoresheet. Michael Skinner led all scorers with 16 points and pulled down five rebounds while Keith Brotherton added 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Craig VanWagoner was the Martians? other double-digit scorer, adding 10 points. Matt Jacobsen led North Branch with nine points.
The Martians came out strong by outscoring the Broncos 19-5 in the first period, with Skinner scoring 10 of his 16 in the period. Goodrich took a 30-17 lead at halftime.
The Martians picked up another league victory with a 51-34 win against Lake Fenton in a Jan. 21 contest.
Brotherton and Skinner each set the table for the Martians with seven points apiece in the first quarter. Goodrich then shut down the Blue Devils defensively in the second quarter, outscoring Lake Fenton 10-4 to increase their halftime lead to 24-15.
Goodrich kept up the good defensive work in the third, allowing only four points in the third. Skinner scored six of his team-leading 16 points in the period as the Martians took a 39-19 lead at the end of the third, which Goodrich would never relinquish.
Basil Wilson added five points for the Martians, while Ridge Warren led the Blue Devils with 10.
