Martian cagers bounce back against Atherton

After their first loss in Genesee Area Conference action, the Goodrich varsity girls basketball team got back on the winning track.
The Martians soundly defeated host Atherton 64-40 in an Oct. 4 contest, improving their season mark to 8-2 overall and 8-1 in league play.
Goodrich took control from the onset, taking an 18-10 lead after the first quarter and a 42-31 lead at the half. The Martians put the game away with a 13-2 run in the third quarter.
Kortni Elsworth led the Martians in scoring with 18 points, while Casey Tubbs added 15 points and Tara Garman contributed 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Martians lost their first game in GAC action Sept. 29, falling to New Lothrop 57-51.
The game started off at a fast pace for both teams, with the Martians holding a 16-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the Blue Devils overtook the Martians in the second quarter, outscoring Goodrich 20-11 in the period to take a 34-27 lead at halftime.
Garman led the Martians with 10 points.
