Goodrich- A registered sex offender was arrested following reports of harrassment from two Goodrich residents and charges of breaking and entering in Lapeer.
Reports from the Genesee County Sheriff Department document, an April 20 complaint regarding registered sex offender Andrew Boyle, 40, of Goodrich. Captin Chris Swanson said Boyle has a mental impairment and has the intellectual capacity of a 10-year-old. Boyle was released from prison in October 2005 after serving 15 years for Criminal Sexual Conduct.
From the report, Boyle was knocking continuously on the door of a 14-year-old female resident. The teenager’s neighbor, Elizabeth Liss, expressing concern over the man, called the sheriff department and Deputy Ronald Whitney responded.
Whitney, familiar with Boyle, went to the his home where he resides with his parents. Boyle told Whitney that while out walking, he’d become tired and stopped at the teenager’s house to call his mother for a ride despite living only two houses away. Boyle was denied entry to the home.
Whitney reportedly warned Boyle against drawing further attention to himself because of his status as a sex offender. No further police action was taken because Boyle had not broken any law.
On April 13, a second complaint was made against Boyle.
This time resident Nicole Downer told Whitney she was driving eastbound on Baldwin Road when she noticed a vehicle following her. The lone male driver of the vehicle’later reported to be Boyle’motioned to Downer to pull over.
Downer said she thought Boyle might be trying to warn her of a problem with her vehicle, but did not pull over since everything seemed to be functioning.
Boyle allegedly continued to follow Downer as she made several turns on the way back to her home, at which point he pulled into her driveway behind her. Downer then walked to the passenger side of Boyles? vehicle to determine why she’d been followed. Boyle reportedly asked directions to Perry Road. Downer instructed him how to get there and Boyle left.
Downer’s husband, upon seeing the car, shouted the license plate number for Downer to copy as Boyle looped around out of their circular driveway. The 1994 Oldsmobile was registered to Boyle.
After being informed of the incident, Whitney advised Downer to call 911 immediately from her cell phone and not return directly to her house if a similar incident occurred.
On April 14, Whitney and Sgt. David McDonald spoke with Boyle’s parents about the incidents. The couple indicated they were unaware of the problems and reportedly expressed concern over the situation. The parents said they would be speaking with Boyle when he returned from work that evening, and that they would be in contact with the law officers if they felt in need of further assistance regarding their son.
No further contact was reported.
Boyle’s mother declined comment.
Boyle was later arrested in Lapeer County and is currently in the Lapeer County jail, facing charges of attempted criminal sexual conduct and breaking and entering. Further details about the arrest were not available at press time.
