Man arrested after breaking into park building

Groveland Twp.-On July 26, Michigan State troopers from Groveland Township responded to the Holly Recreation Area and arrested a 46-year-old Burton man on charges of breaking and entering, along with possession of marijuana. The charges come after a park ranger reported a suspicious vehicle parked by the gate house at the McGinnis Road entrance. When the ranger investigated, he found state park items in the man’s truck including a microwave, cash register, horseshoes and fishing poles. The park ranger handcuffed and detained the man until troopers arrived.
The man said that he worked a regular job and also collected scrap metal for extra money. Along with his dog, the man had visited the park in the morning to fish and was leaving when he decided to break into the gate house. At one point he drank four beers and said he was too ‘buzzed? to drive home so he pulled over near the park entrance to sleep it off.
The man also told troopers that he was going through a divorce, had a gambling problem and was an alcoholic.
