The Clarkston swim team’s record has not sparkled at all this season.
A 117-67 loss to Troy Athens on Feb. 3 pushed the Wolves to 2-7 on the season, and yet the team is not worried at all.
‘Our coach does not really train us for individual meets. I mean, we just had a morning practice, it was a hard morning practice. She’s training us for the end of the year.? said junior co-captain Ryan Kurrle. ‘We are starting to taper right now. Right at the end of our taper we will be at our peak performance. We’ll be able to beat Troy Athens, no problem.?
The Wolves were supposed to compete in the Oakland County Tournament on Feb. 5, but had to pull out due to many swimmers being ill. Earlier in the year, Clarkston lost practice time due to inclement weather.
Once the Wolves are healthy, they hope to continue shaving their times down for the Oakland Athletic Association league meet on Feb. 25.
‘We have a strong team. We have a team that is built to win OAA’s,? said junior co-captain Keith Voorheis. ‘We’re built for that end result in the OAA’s. We are not built for individual meets. We work for an end goal.?
Prior to the OAA’s, Clarkston has two more tune-up meets versus Royal Oak at home on Feb. 8 and at West Bloomfield on Feb.10. Swim preliminaries for the OAA’s are on Feb. 23 and diving preliminaries are on Feb. 24.
