DECA is an association of marketing students at Lake Orion High School, and the International Career Development Conference is the biggest event of the year for them, with roughly 13,000 members attending.
The five-member group from Lake Orion attended the conference April 28 through May 3, and two students, juniors Olivia Gross and Kevin Latshaw, competed in various marketing categories.
Senior Brandon Kutelhut, along with juniors Ryan Edwards and Danielle Lawrence, attended a Leadership Development Academy.
The LDA is a two-day intense leadership-training program, where students learn chapter management skills, general leadership skills and more.
Though they got out of a few days of school, and got to take trips to the Six Flags Theme Park and a rodeo, all five students agreed that the experience of attending the conference was what they were most looking forward to.
