The 3-Day Walk team Sole Sisters, Finish or Bust, has come a long way to achieving their goal, but still have a long way to go ? 60 miles, in fact.
‘I’m really excited about it,? said Jenny Swiatowy of Clarkston. ‘My heart is so full. It’s difficult to ask people for money in these economic times, but their generosity has been incredible.?
‘It’s overwhelming, a great cause,? said teammate Toni Alder of Waterford.
Swiatowy and Alder teamed up with Margie Fujarski of Waterford, Angie Ladetto of Waterford, and Linda Seng of Clarkston for the fund raiser for breast cancer research and local education programs. They work together to collect pledges, sponsors, and donations, and will join thousands of men and women in a three-day, 60-mile walk, Aug. 12-14 in Detroit.
‘This is a wonderful cause,? Swiatowy said. ‘My mother in law and my aunt are breast cancer survivors.?
‘I have a friend in Ohio who was diagnosed five years ago, so I got involved in one-day walks,? Alder said. ‘My friend Jenny joined and asked me to join too.?
It’s the first 3-Day for Swiatowy, Alder, and Seng ? the third for Ladetto and Fujarski.
‘They said we’d be exhausted but so glad to have participated,? Swiatowy said.
They train 2-4 days a week, 3-4 miles at a time at local malls and schools.
‘We’ll walk outside when the weather improves,? Swiatowy said.
They hosted a fund raiser, March 1, at MacPhee’s restaurant on M-15, raising more than $650. They plan more this spring and summer.
