With Thanksgiving coming tomorrow, Lake Orion resident Miriam Sibbald wants to focus on ‘Americans helping Americans.?
The former local business owner (used to operate Second Time Around) is continuing her efforts to provide items for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
‘People are just now getting back in their homes, so they haven’t had storage. They need everything,? she said.
Sibbald, who is working through Grace Centers of Hope, is hoping to get trucks loaded with individual set-ups for families and get them down to people in need.
She said that she realizes that Michigan is in ‘tough times,? but there are still hundreds of people displaced from their homes and with very limited possessions.
Sibbald has visited the hurricane-wreaked area, and found that there are still areas that are in need of desperate help.
‘Tennesseans help each other, but there is more poverty in Louisiana so they can’t help each other,? she said.
Sibbald noted that much of the assistance that has occurred so far has been through churches, and she would like to see more businesses and schools in the area get in on helping, promoting the idea of ‘Americans helping Americans.?
She is in constant contact with organizations in the gulf area, and is compiling wish lists and requests from hurricane victims. Sibbald hopes to get these lists to schools and businesses so they can adopt these families in need.
