The fourth annual Lake Orion Rotary Duathlon took place July 21 and despite the early start time runners, bikers and athletes came out in droves to test their mettle.
A five kilometer run and 20 kilometer bike ride were the challengers and locals from Orion Township and surrounding communities were their opponents. Some were their to beat their best times while others simply wanted the exercise or to prove themselves capable. The race began at 8 a.m. and the final racer crossed just before 10 a.m.
Early morning heat and wet grass may have made for uncomfortable conditions, but the achievement alone managed to put a smile on nearly every racer’s face as they crossed the finish line. The participants soon made it clear why the event is on it’s fourth rendition – Orion likes to move!
