LO golfers compete in GAM Junior Amateur

Lake Orion golfers David Kurtz and Timothy Marion recently qualified to compete in the Golf Association of Michigan’s (GAM) Junior Amateur State Championship.
The event will be held at the Moors Golf Club in Portage, Michigan on July 27-30.
Kurtz and Marion were two out of 75 golfers who qualified for the state championship after playing a sectional qualifying round at Plum Brook Golf Club in Sterling Heights on July 8.
Plum Brook was one of six different courses where junior amateurs could play to qualify for the GAM state championship.
At Plum Brook, Marion finished tied for seventh with a qualifying score of 71.
Kurtz finished tied for 13th, with a qualifying score of 72.
According to GAM’s website (www.gam.org), this year’s state championship ‘will expose young golfers to the competitive format of stroke and match play, and preps them for college competition and beyond.?
GAM was founded in 1919, and is the governing body for amateur golf in the state of Michigan.
It is a not-for-profit organization, and provides membership to more than 70,000 golfers and more than 400 golf courses.
GAM conducts 13 amateur championships.
