The Bryson family spent this past weekend and parts of this week moving to a town ‘where living is a vacation? as dad Tony Bryson accepts his new position as administrator for Lake Orion Baptist School.
Bryson, along with his wife, Leigh Ann, and three children, Abigail (seventh grade), Micah (fifth grade) and Joshua (third grade), will be making Lake Orion their new home and Lake Orion Baptist School their new school.
After spending almost two decades in Michigan, having moved here from east Tennessee, Bryson taught and served as an administrator at a school in Sterling Heights and is now looking forward to tackling his new position at Lake Orion Baptist.
‘The school is tied in with the church,? Bryson said. ‘My ministry is with education, supporting the program, the teachers and the children.?
Bryson, along with overseeing the school, will also be teaching a couple classes, a common practice at a small school.
‘It’s all hands on deck,? he added.
Last year, Lake Orion Baptist had approximately 132 students enrolled, and Bryson believes the numbers this year will be similar.
The school offers kindergarten through 12th grade, offering a block schedule system for high school students.
According to Bryson, the school schedule and program is geared to get students ready for enrollment in a Christian college, a goal that the school has had success in accomplishing.
‘It’s nice, in a small school, to have that kind of product,? he said of the many students that finish at Lake Orion Baptist and continue on their education in college.
‘It’s our goal to give the students a well-rounded education.?
Besides academic and religious education, Lake Orion Baptist also offers extracurricular activities for their students, including varsity and junior varsity athletics.
‘We parallel a lot of what larger schools do,? Bryson said. ‘The young people have a lot of opportunities if they choose to take them.?
Bryson feels that its through the help and support of a strong parent network that helps provide Lake Orion Baptist with such a strong foundation and opportunities to offer their students.
According to Bryson, parents help with anything from planning activities to coaching sports teams.
‘It’s pretty special to have people like that that love the kids,? he added, noting that he sees more parent involvement at Lake Orion Baptist than he has at his other schools, something that he, and his family, are looking forward to.
‘More people working together means we’re going to be more successful,? Bryson said.
As for his new positions, Bryson hopes to see how things operate and wants to ‘get (his) feet wet without making too many changes.?
He also hopes for him and his family to develop relationships with members of the ministry.
‘We’re here to serve and help the best we can, and I trust over time, to become a good part of the ministry here,? he added.
Lake Orion Baptist School, located on East Scripps Road, begins classes on August 27.
