The LO varsity hoops squad raced in to the new year, dominating from start to finish in a 75-48 win at Hazel Park on Jan 3.
The Dragons outscored Hazel Park 22-7 in the first quarter of the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) crossover matchup.
Sophomore Drew Maynard led the Dragons with 18 points and senior Marc Thompson chipped in 15.
On Jan 6., the Dragons opened OAA divisional play with a 57-49 win at Waterford Kettering.
Maynard again led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Senior Jon Krause added 14, and junior Ross Tonyan had a dozen assists for the Dragons, improving their team record to 5-1 overall.
The Dragons were able to withstand a late Kettering rally, that trimmed a once commanding 16-point lead down to six in the final minute.
Kettering found their outside touch late, connecting on multiple three pointers, the last of which cut the Dragon lead to six with about 50 seconds left.
However, free throws sealed the victory for Lake Orion in the end.
The Dragons held large rebounding advantages in both victories.
Meanwhile, with his two impressive scoring outputs, Maynard remains near the top of the OAA’s scoring leaders list.
The two wins began a season long 5-game road trip for the Dragons.
They don’t return home until Jan. 24.
The travels continue against divisional opponent Stoney Creek on Jan. 13.
