Lions tune-up for postseason

The Lake Orion Baptist baseball team ended the 2008 regular season with an 18-4 mark, after a double header sweep of Genesee Christian, 4-3 and 8-5.
In game one, Matt Cameron picked up the win, pitching four innings of two-hit ball, only allowing one run. Jacob Gardner picked up the save giving up two runs on three hits, while striking out seven in three innings of work.
Chris Hojnacki swung the big stick with three hits and three RBI, including the tying and go-ahead RBI in the fifth inning. James Moreno also had three hits and Gardner added two.
In the bottom of the fourth inning of game two, the Lions were down 4-3, and found the bases loaded with Genesee runners and nobody out. That’s when Conner Welby came in to relieve Hojnacki, and he squelched the rally with three consecutive strikeouts.
Welby pitched the final three innings for the win, giving up one run on two hits while striking out six.
In the top of the sixth, with the score tied at four, the Lions scored four runs to put the game out of reach. Hojnacki and Danny Fisher had two hits each for LOBS.
The Lions hosted Juniata Christian on Tuesday, May 27, in the second round of the Michigan Association of Christian Schools (MACS) State Tournament. Return to next week’s Review for a full recap.
