Several Brandon football players had productive games against Linden Sept. 17, but it was not enough for a Blackhawk victory.
The visiting Eagles overcame a 14-12 halftime deficit, scoring 20 points in the second half to defeat the Blackhawks 32-20. Linden stayed undefeated at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Flint Metro League, while Brandon fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Brandon senior quarterback Andrew Burch scored the Blackhawks? first points, scoring on a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The point-after attempt failed, leaving the Blackhawks with a 6-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Burch found senior Jason Ledgerwood on a six-yard touchdown pass. Burch then completed a two-point conversion pass to junior Nick Toreli, giving the Blackhawks the lead at halftime.
After the Eagles scored 13 points in the third quarter to take a 25-14 lead, Burch threw his second touchdown pass of the game in the fourth quarter, hitting Derek Foyt for a five-yard touchdown pass. However, the Eagles scored a touchdown of their own in the fourth to preserve the win.
Burch completed 15 of 28 passes for 141 yards, while Foyt rushed 14 times for 42 yards and caught six passes for 80 yards. Toreli led the Blackhawks defensively, recording 14 tackles and a fumble recovery.
After the Blackhawks? Sept. 24 Homecoming game against Oxford, Brandon hits the road for a Oct. 1 league game against Holly, who is trying to rebuild following a 2003 campaign that saw them finish last in the Flint Metro with a record of 1-8 overall and 0-6 in the league.
The Bronchos are currently 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the league following a 41-6 loss to Lapeer East Sept. 17.
