Wednesdays are a delicious day on the Pine Tree Elementary Daily Dragons morning news show.
As a supplement for the news show, which Pine Tree has been doing for the last eight or nine years, the students present Kids Kreations on Wednesday’s show, which features quick and easy snacks.
‘We’re just trying to be more and more creative, upbeat and positive about being in the kitchen,? said Kathy Lutz, a technology support technician at Pine Tree and the advisor of Daily Dragons.
Kids Kreations was added last year, and features a variety of recipes including crunchy snack mix and spider cookies for Halloween.
‘We try to do it around the theme of what is going on that month,? said Lutz. ‘It has to be quick and easy.?
The students that produce Daily Dragons and Kids Kreations help pick out the recipes, in addition to doing work to prepare for shooting, announcing and running the camera.
According to student Kendra Ruddy, the group does a practice making the snack item to help prepare them for doing it on-air.
All the students involved agreed on one thing.
‘The best part is making the stuff and then eating it,? said student Sarah Porritt, whose opinion was echoed among the group.
The whole school watches the morning news show, and since it is shown on ‘in-house? cable, the show is also available for the other Lake Orion schools to watch.
Lutz and the group plan on continuing to add more creativity to the show and to start to offer healthy tips once a week.
‘It’s a privilege to be on the news show,? Lutz said, noting that the group is very enthusiastic to be involved in the production.
Daily Dragons is sponsored by the Pine Tree PTO, as well as assistance from various donations.
