Brandon’s boys cross country team earned a split decision in its first league matchup of the season.
On Sept. 21, the Blackhawks lost to Linden 23-32 and defeated Lapeer East 20-41. Brad Lawrence and Trevor DeWitt led the Blackhawks by placing third and fourth overall, respectively, at the meet.
Brandon runners rounding out the varsity squad were: Steve Sanday, Adam George, Chris Holton, Eric Edhe, and Stewart Olney.
A couple of Brandon runners did very well for themselves at the Chesaning Invitational Thursday, Sept. 16.
Lawrence and DeWitt both finished in the top 30 at the invite, with each medaling for their efforts. Sanday finished one place out of medal contention at 31st place.
As a team, the Blackhawks finished sixth overall and third among Division II teams, tallying 131 points. Hartland won the meet with 75 points, edging out second-place Flushing (78) and third-place Linden (79).
Lawrence finished eighth overall with a time of 18:00.5, while DeWitt placed 18th (18:28.7). Sanday completed the race in 18:58.5.
Other Brandon competitors were: Holton (35th, 19:08.6), George (43rd, 19:25.8), Edhe (44th, 19:34.5), and Olney (57th, 20:16.9). Olney set a personal best time at the invite, running 90 seconds faster than his previous best effort.
