A Lakeville man was arraigned in Rochester Hills 52-3 District Court Monday on two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct against a 12-year-old girl from Leonard.
According to the sheriff’s report, Steven Frederick Mathews, 32, a friend of the girl’s family, allegedly put his hands up the girl’s shirt and down her pants while she was at her step-father’s workplace in Leonard.
This allegedly happened three or four times before she ran outside the building out of fear. The girl’s brother witnessed the alleged events.
According to the sheriff’s report, Mathews admitted drinking beer the day of the alleged incident.
When Mathews was arrested, he denied ever touching the girl. At first, he agreed to take a polygraph test, but later refused.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sept. 4 before 52-3 District Judge Julie A. Nicholson.
If convicted, Mathews could face up to 15 years in prison for each felony count.
