Lake Orion youth hurt in fatality crash on M-24

A 24-year-old Oxford Township woman was killed and a 17-year-old Lake Orion youth seriously injured around 1:14 a.m. Saturday in a collision on M-24, north of Brown Road.
Oakland County Sheriff deputies report that Sherry Burke, 24, died when her 2005 Ford Focus collided with a 1996 Ford Explorer driven by the Lake Orion resident.
A third vehicle, driven by a 43-year-old Oakland Township woman, was also involved in the crash. She was reportedly uninjured.
Early reports suggest that one of the drivers may have been going the wrong way on M-24, but that has not been confirmed.
Deputies speculate that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The results of blood tests on Burke and the 17-year-old are incomplete.
Burke and the 43-year-old driver were reportedly wearing seatbelts. The Lake Orion driver was not and had to be extricated from his vehicle, deputies said.
He was transported to POH Hospital and listed in serious condition.
Air bags were deployed in all three vehicles. The crash is still being investigated by Sgt. Joseph Lambourn of the Oakland County Sheriff Department.
