After a fast-paced Class A district game against the Clarkston Wolves Monday night, the Ladycats came out on top, winning 35-33 in overtime.
Junior captain Joelle Harms had 14 points and five rebounds, while junior captain Brooke Bocquet amazed the crowd when she hit a three-point shot with 29 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
Oxford made 6 out of 8 free throws in overtime to snag the win.
‘Our girls showed their heart and toughness tonight,? said Coach Al Poynter.
The team played their best defense of the season when they needed it the most, holding Clarkston without a made field goal for the final 15? minutes of the game.
‘I couldn’t be prouder of our team,? he said.
On Friday, Oxford ended their regular season with a 27-21 win over Brandon.
Senior captain Kelsey Oliver had 11 points and eight rebounds, and junior Jessica Raisch had seven points.
‘Both teams were awful offensively in the first half,? coach Poynter said. ‘However, our girls continued to compete hard defensively, and we were finally able to force the lid off the basket with some easy baskets and free throws.?
Oxford will take on Waterford Mott at Waterford Kettering at 7 p.m. tonight for the second round of district play. The girls are now 15-6 overall.
