It seems playing games on the road has paid off for the Oxford Varsity girl’s basketball team.
The Ladycats won both their games at Brandon on Friday and at Linden Monday night.
At Brandon, junior captain Joelle Harms had 13 points, junior Le’Essa Collier had 12 points and seven rebounds, while junior captain Brooke Bocquet had seven points.
Oxford beat Brandon 39-33.
‘We played our best defense of the season in the second and third quarters, giving up only five points in 16 minutes,? Coach Al Poynter said. ‘We have to keep playing great defense to stay at or near the top of the league.?
And that they did.
Monday night, they beat Linden 44-33. Harms scored 11 points, had seven rebounds, five assists and three steals, while junior Jessica Raisch had eight points, four rebounds and two blocked shots.
‘We had probably the best first half of our season, scoring 27 points to their 10,? Poynter said. ‘We really came out hard on the road.?
The Ladycats are now 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the Flint Metro League. Their next game is at home this Friday against Clio at 6 p.m.
