Lady Wildcats have a tough week on the court

After two games this past week, the ladies varsity basketball team is sitting with an overall 2-3 record.
On Sept. 4, Oxford lost to Crosswell Lexington 46-45. The Lady Cats held on strong during the first couple periods, even leading the game by 17 points at the half. However, Crosswell regrouped in the second half to outscore Oxford.
Scoring for the Wildcats were Megan Stumph with 16 points, Ally Zonsius with nine and Jenni Rhodes with seven. Leading with rebounds were Stumph with seven, Zonsius with five and Denise Bratley with six.
On Tuesday, the ladies suffered another tough loss to Goodrich 49-38, an improvement over last year’s 15 point loss. Coach Becky Graves said the ladies played hard.
“I think we did a good job in the first half,” she stated. “I think they played hard the entire game.”
Oxford tried to pull ahead at the beginning of the second half and even closed the score by one point at the end of the third. Scoring for the Wildcats were Stumph with 14 points, Rhodes with 11 and Zonsius with 4. Stumph also lead the way in rebounds with nine, followed closely by Mykala Salquist with eight.
The Lady Wildcats are gearing up for their first league competition tomorrow (Thursday) against Lapeer West. Oxford hopes to have a repeat of last year with the Cats defeated West twice.
“Hopefully this will be a great start to our league games,” concluded Graves.
