It took five games on Saturday to decide the Class B district title.
Macomb Lutheran North survived a ferocious attack by Goodrich, 12-25, 25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 15-13. Goodrich, was eyeing its first Class B district title since 2002, and finished the season 39-10-4. Chynna Blaker led the Martians with 24-for-24 serving, including eight kills, while Niki McKerracher was 37-for-39 attacking with 14 kills and six blocks. Jennifer Eisinger had 34 digs and was 39-for-40 on serve reception, while Sara Eisinger was 17-for-18 serving with 39 assists.
‘After playing them last year and losing, we wanted to show them we were confident, but not cocky, that we would win,? said Blaker. ‘We wanted revenge in a positive way and it was a really different feeling. We all just really wanted to win.?
The Martians confidence showed after winning the first game. Macomb then won the second and third games.
‘We knew it wasn’t going to be a cake walk,? said Sara Eisinger.
The Martians won the fourth game, tying up the two teams. The District championship was then won by Macomb Lutheran North in the fifth and final game.
‘I would describe this season as unforgettable,? said Blaker. ‘Being able to play with these girls so long has been amazing and this was one of the best seasons. I will never be able to forget it.?
The Martians were first in the League, only losing to New Lothrop, they were undefeated in the League Championship tournaments and were winning in districts until Macomb Lutheran North.
‘I think this was one of the best years for Goodrich volleyball, the juniors have some big shoes to fill, but I know they will be able to do it,? said Eisinger.
