Although they lost to Fenton Monday night, varsity girls softball coach Sue Roeher said her Wildcats had a ‘huge improvement? from last week’s sub-par games against Brandon.
‘I’m very proud of our performance today versus Fenton, who is ranked fourth in the state,? she said.
In game one, senior captain Amanda Jolly was 1 for 3, junior Kelsey Oliver was 1 for 3 with one run scored, and junior captain Lauren LaCroix was 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.
Senior pitcher Sarah Mersino had one strike out, three earned runs and walked one Fenton player.
Oxford ended the first game 4-1.
In game two, the teams were scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when Fenton was able to secure two singles and a winning run.
Freshman pitcher Corinne Luxton had five strike outs, two earned runs and didn’t walk any Fenton players.
The Wildcats are now 5-7 overall and 0-4 in the FML. They travel to Clio Thursday for a 4 p.m. game.
