Lady Cats drop two more

Chalk up two more notches in the loss column for the varsity girls as they were outplayed by Rochester Adams and West Bloomfield this week.
On Friday, Jan. 28, the Wildcats suffered a 53-33 road loss to Rochester Adams.
After a competitive first half which saw the Wildcats hold a 21-18 halftime lead, Rochester turned up the pressure and out-scored the Wildcats 22-9 in the third quarter, taking a 40-30 lead.
They never let Oxford back in the game, holding the Wildcats to three points in the final quarter.
‘We came out with great focus and energy and played one of our best halves of the season,? head coach Al Poynter said. ‘We just had a few too many turnovers, missed shots and too few defensive stops to pull it out.
Sophomore Kelsey Harrison led Oxford with nine points and five rebounds and senior Sam Murphy finished with seven points.
An 18-3 first quarter propelled West Bloomfield to a 56-33 victory over the Wildcats on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
Oxford battled for the rest of the game, trailing 35-15 at halftime and 45-25 at the end of three quarters.
‘We just gave West Bloomfield too many chances with our turnovers, and like most teams in our new league, they made us pay dearly for them,? Poynter said.
Sophomore Shelby Davis scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Wildcats.
‘Our girls just finished a brutal stretch of three straight games on the road against the top three teams in the league. The scores are a bit misleading because they don’t show how our girls are improving and learning to compete against high level competition,? Poynter said.
Oxford currently sits at 2-10 overall, 2-6 in the OAA white division. They played Stoney Creek on Tuesday, Feb. 1 and home against Southfield on Feb. 4.
