The Oxford Lady Cats had a fun, yet great learning experience over the weekend at the Michigan All Stars Tournament in Sterling Heights.
The weekend started out great, according to coach Sue Roeher, with a 2-1 win against Troy after a tie pushed them into 10 innings.
Flint Kearsley was next on deck, but beat Oxford 2-1, followed by a 9-6 loss to Sterling Heights and a 9-3 loss to Davison.
The Lady Cats rebounded in their last game against West Bloomfield with a 7-6 win.
‘Everyone got playing time and learned a lot,? Roeher said. ‘The next few league games are of utmost importance.?
On Monday night, Oxford lost game one against Lapeer East 12-2, but beat them 10-5 in game two.
Freshman Allie Laidlaw was 2 for 3, junior Kelsey Oliver was 1 for 3, scored one and had 1 RBI. In game two, senior Amanda Jolly was 1 for 4, scored three runs and had 2 RBI’s.
‘It was baffling to determine why we can play so well and so poorly on the same day,? Roeher said. ‘We know we can hang with better than average teams, we just need to play consistently well all the time.?
The girls travel to Holly Thursday for a 4 p.m. game. The Jill Milosch Memorial Tourney will take place May 19 at OHS.
