Lady Blackhawks set for regionals

Over the past 27 years, Greg Hyde has coached some pretty good teams.
‘This is simply the best team ever,? said Hyde, Brandon High School girls track team coach. ‘There’s just some great sprinters on this team and outstanding work ethic.?
The 38-member team, which includes freshman through senior girls, are winding down the 2012 track season with a perfect 8-0 record. In addition, the Lady Blackhawks swept four multi-team meets including the Kearsley Early Bird Invitational (four teams), the Brandon Tri-County Invitational (16 teams), the Oxford Invitational (22 teams) and the Goodrich Invitational (eight teams, meet at Davison High School).
Anna Fochesato, is currently ranked number one among division one statewide in high jump with a record of 5 foot, 5 inches; Madison Pierce is ranked number five in the long jump with 17 feet, 5 inches and holds a new school record; and Taylor Rieves set a new school record in the 300 meter hurdles. The mile relay team (four girls run 1/4 mile each) set a school record of 4:13:4.
On May 18 the team will participate along with 15 teams in regional competition at Brandon High School with the top two individual finishers moving on to the state finals in Grand Rapids on June 2.
‘We encourage the community to come out on Friday and cheer these girls on,? he said. ‘It’s absolutely remarkable.?
