Senior Chapin White smiled at the fans in the Clarkston bleachers.
Under the watchful eye of parents, coaches and the loyal lacrosse fans he signed his letter of intent on April 29 to play for Davenport University next year.
‘Chuck and I are very excited to watch Chapin play at the next level in lacrosse,? said mom, Nikki.
Chapin, also known as ‘Whitey? by his teammates and coaching staff has played for the varsity team on the last three years.
‘He has been encouraged and inspired by his varsity coach, Brian Kaminskas,? said Nikki. ‘We know that when the bar is raised even higher in college, he will be ready to meet it.?
Chapin began playing lacrosse when he was in eighth grade.
He was playing football when he was approached with the option to try another sport – lacrosse.
After going to a meeting and learning more about it he was intrigued and signed on. He played both sports until his junior year then chose to commit his time to lacrosse year round.
‘He is an absolute workhorse,? said Kaminskas, earlier in the season. ‘He is nonstop and never gets off the field. He is always moving the ball on offense and he is a defense middie. He has a great competitive spirit and is a leader on the field and off the field.?
Also present for the signing was his future head coach, Bob Clarkson. The Panthers is a Division II team, is currently seeded fifth in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association in the National Tournament Bracket.
Chapin will add his defensive skills for next season. He has played his current position of defensive middie for the last three year. He earned was named to the All-Regional team in his junior year, Most Improved Defenseman in his sophomore year, and the coveted Ground Ball Hog award in his freshman year.
This season he is working towards All-State honors.
When Chapin goes to Davenport in the fall he will study Business Administration.
