Kwiatkowski medals as Brandon golfers defeat Lapeer East

Brandon’s varsity girls golf team proved to be too much for Lapeer East to handle in their April 24 meet.
The Blackhawks, behind senior Laura Kwiatkowski’s round of 47, defeated the Eagles 218-235 at Atlas Valley Country Club. It was the Blackhawks? second dual meet Flint Metro League win in as many tries.
Kwiatkowski’s efforts were good enough to earn her medalist honors. Abby Galey was next for the Blackhawks with a round of 51, while Rebecca Scherer shot 53 and Katie Koontz 62.
The Blackhawks are scheduled for a key league meet Thursday, April 27 against Fenton. Brandon coach Kevin Meyer said the two teams are expected to be the top contenders for the Flint Metro League championship.

Fenton shot a team score of 401 to edge the Blackhawks by one stroke. Oxford was third at 427.
Kwiatkowski was the meet’s leading golfer, shooting an 18-hole round of 86. Lapeer West’s Jaquee Benscoter finished second among individual Flint Metro golfers with an 89.
Galey notched an even 100 score for the Blackhawks, while Scherer was three strokes behind at 103. Rounding out the Blackhawks? scoring were Koontz (113), Jessica Laviolette (127) and Rachel Hartwig (129).
