Krych’s 261 stolen bases leads to All-State team

Goodrich- During her senior season, Kelsey Krych had no idea that she was closing in on the national record for stolen bases in a softball career.
‘My parents and coaches knew that I could beat the record, but they didn’t tell me until I was like 19 bases away,? said Krych.
‘I don’t think they wanted me to know.?
Krych’s stealing record of 261 bases is only one aspect of her success in softball.
As a senior, Krych clinched her third title of first team All-State. Following Goodrich shortstop, Danielle Pease, and second baseman, Christina Saindon, Krych was only the third Lady Martian to attain three All-State distinctions.
Krych also plays travel softball with the Michigan Bat Busters, who have already won the Amateur Softball Association State Championship, as well as the National Softball Association State Championship this year.
‘We’re in the USSSA State tournament this weekend. We’ll be going for the triple crown, or three state championships in a year,? said Krych.
Krych will be playing softball and running cross country at Oakland University in the fall.
‘I was nervous about choosing between softball and cross country for college, so when Oakland offered me a scholarship for both, I was really relieved,? she said.
Krych has received nearly a full scholarship from Oakland University. She will be living on campus, dividing her time between sports and classes.
