First year in the Oakland Activities Association was a success for varsity swimmers, as they finished second to Clarkston at the OAA championships at Clarkston High School, Nov. 3-5.
According to swimming coach Jackie Rank, the girls set school records in six events and had one champion, senior Jade Casadei in Diving.
‘I am really proud of all the girls and the way they ended the season,? Rank said.
Casadei competed in the regional championships at Fenton High School on Tuesday.
Freshman Haley Kornburger will compete in the division two state finals in the 200 Individual Medley, 100 Butterfly and the 100 Backstroke.
The results of the OAA meet are:
200 Medley Relay: The Wildcat’s A relay of senior captain Jenna Mallard, sophomore Laura Zorle, Kornburger and senior captain Anna Daves set a school record with their second place time of 2:01.67.
200 Freestyle: Mallard finished second with a time of 2:10.68 for the Wildcats. Senior captain Sarah Skelton finished third, sophomore Casey Keils was fourth, junior Brooklyn Allen was 12th and senior Jamie Miller rounded out the top 16.
200 Individual Medley: Freshman Elizabeth Wilkins finished in sixth with a time of 2:46.06. Sophomore Caitlyn Wroblewski rounded out the top eight.
50 Freestyle: Junior Amanda delaPaz came in fourth place with a time of 26.97. Daves was eighth, senior Jasmine Vickery was 12th, sophomore Sammi Kurk was 15th and freshman Kaitlyn Barber rounded out the top 16 for the Wildcats.
Diving: Casadei came in first place with a school record dive total of 341.90.
100 Butterfly: Kornburger set a school record with her second place time of 1:01.25. Allen came in fifth, Zorle sixth and Kurk finished in 10th for the Wildcats.
100 Freestyle: Keils came in sixth, finishing with a time of 1:01.22. delaPaz finished seventh, Daves was ninth and Barber rounded out the top 16 for Oxford.
500 Freestyle: Mallard finished in second place and established a school record with her time of 5:50.57. Sarah Skelton finished right behind Mallard in third, while freshman Melissa Skelton was in 12th and junior Grace Galbraith was 13th.
200 Freestyle Relay: Oxford’s A relay of delaPaz, Daves, Keils and Skelton finished third with a time of 1:52.10.
100 Backstroke: Kornburger finished in second with a school record time of 1:01.32. Wroblewski finished in sixth, Vickery was seventh, sophomore Miranda Murphy finished in ninth and sophomore Courtney Lavender was 14th for Oxford.
100 Breaststroke: Zorle came in fourth for the Wildcats with a time of 1:18.38. Wilkins finished in fifth.
400 Freestyle relay: Oxford’s A relay of Mallard, delaPaz, Keils and Kornburger finished second with a school record time of 3:58.03.
