Knights raise money for St. Benedict Monastery

For the past eight years, members of the Thomas R. Carey Council of the Knights of Columbus have given their financial support to the brothers and monks of the St. Benedict Monastery.
On October 7, the Knights held yet another fundraiser to assist residents at the monastery and to fund religious retreats for local students.
This year, the Catholic men’s organization raised $17,820 for the monastery. Last Tuesday, a check in that amount was donated to St. Benedict’s.
Knight Larry Elzerman, who was this year’s event chairperson, pointed out that Council 4764 also supports charities such as Holy Cross Children’s Services (Boysville), along with the annual Tootsie Roll Drive.
The St. Benedict Monastery, located on E. Drahner Rd., is home of the Subiaco Retreat which hosts religious retreats for more than 5,000 high school students each year.
Elzerman expressed appreciation to the more than 80 local businesses that supported the 2006 fundraiser.
There are more than 70,000 Knights of Columbus members in Michigan, with about 300 members at Council 4764.
The organization is open to all Catholic gentlemen who are at least 18 years old.
