Clarkston’s soccer team’s offense had a cold snap to rival the weather last week ? the Wolves were defeated 1-0 by Seaholm on April 26 and tied Dondero 1-1 on April 28.
‘We have to get our forwards to take people on,? said Clarkston Coach Annette Richardson. ‘I’m trying to encourage them to be more selfish.?
While Richardson felt her team could have emerged from the week with at least one victory, she was heartened by their overall level of competition.
‘The girls played as a team they did everything that I asked of them. Their play (against Dondero) was phenomenal,? said Richardson.
Senior Jenna Przybycien scored the Wolves lone goal against Dondero.
Clarkston’s matchup with Dondero also marked a solid debut performance by sophomore Jordan Sinclair, who was moved up from JV to play sweeper on varsity.
?(Sinclair) reads the game better than anyone I’ve seen ? she’s a natural sweeper. I felt she adjusted well to the speed of the game,? said Richardson.
Due to their practice time being affected by the cold weather, Richardson did not start Sinclair against Seaholm earlier in the week, wanting to make sure that the new addition to the team had some level of comfort with the teammates.
This week in practice, the team will focus on one-on-one matchups and crosses in an effort to start putting the ball in the net with more regularity.
Having already faced every team in the OAA division I Clarkston will be seeking revenge against a number of teams the second time around. The Wolves now stand at 3-5-2 (1-5-2) on the season.
‘We hope to win the rest of our games. If they play that way the rest of the season, we can do that,? said Richardson.
The Wolves travel to Farmington High School on May 5 for their next action. On April 12, Clarkston lost a close game to Farmington 3-2.
Clarkston stays on the road against Kimball on May 10 and West Bloomfield on May 12 before returning to the comfy confines of the CHS soccer stadium on May 16 to face Avondale.
