In a season where most bounces have not gone their way, the Clarkston soccer team refuses to simply play out the string before the long summer vacation. The Wolves still have teeth and Clarkston Coach Annette Richardson hopes her team will start brandishing them soon.
‘Our record (4-6-5) doesn’t show how good we have played this year,? said Richardson. ?(We) are not having a bad season. (We’ve) just had some bad luck.?
Of Clarkston’s six losses on the year, five have been by one goal.
On May 19, the Wolves were back on the winning side of the ball for the first time in seven games, beating Seaholm 1-0 behind goalkeeper Emily Pierce’s fourth shutout of the season. Lauren Smith scored the game winner for Clarkston.
No sooner had the Wolves captured a small amount of wind in their sails then OAA division II power Stoney Creek blew into town on May 20 beating Clarkston by a score of 5-0.
The loss to Stoney Creek also marked the final time the soccer team will play at the soccer stadium at Clarkston Middle School as the varsity program will play at the newly synthetic upholstered CHS stadium next year. The game also held special significance as it was senior night.
Richardson felt that the contributions from seniors Taylor Hosner, Amanda Henderson, Emily Munchiando, Jenna Przybycien, Lauren Smith and Amanda Leach will be hard to match next year.
‘They will be really missed. They are all hard workers,? said Richardson.
The Wolves? games against Grand Blanc on May 23 and Dondero on May 24 finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News.
‘Two wins going into districts would be great,? said Richardson.
Clarkston opens districts on May 31 at Davison. Should the Wolves advance, they would face Carman Ainsworth at Grand Blanc on June 2.
