The Oxford Varsity boys soccer team improved their overall record to 7-7-3 after last Wednesday night’s 3-0 win against Linden.
It was the last league game of the season, and the last home game for the twelve seniors on the team.
According to coach John Thaler, the match-up between the teams was ‘of epic proportions? since the league title hung in the balance for Linden, while the Wildcats were fighting to be in the top three in the Flint Metro League.
Oxford carried the ball in the first half and inched closer and closer to a goal with each play they made. On a long throw-in from senior Matt Patria, the ball shot out to midfield and senior captain Dan Arft lofted it into the net for his first goal of the season.
In the second half, junior Doug Kiracofe found him and junior Steven Walker two-on-one with a Linden player. Kiracofe was able to make the goal to bring the score to 2-0. Senior goal keeper Rick Brady came up with four amazing saves for the night.
On Tuesday, the boys took on North Branch and won 5-1. Goals were made by Walker, Kiracofe, Corey Olson and Daniel Peck.
Oxford ends their regular season 8-7-3 and their league play 5-2-1. They tied with Holly for 3rd Place in the FML.
